Adventures

High adventure

As Scouts grow, so do the adventures. Our older Scouts paddle, backpack, sail and dive their way across North America, and plan much of it themselves.

The Adirondack canoe trek

Every August, a crew of Troop 75 Scouts spends a week paddling through the Adirondack backcountry: carrying canoes and gear between lakes, cooking on camp stoves and camping somewhere new each night. Shorter mini-treks on lakes like Raquette and Lows Lake earlier in the year build the skills (and the stamina) the big trip needs.

Beyond the Adirondacks

Recent and upcoming Troop 75 high adventure includes:

  • Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario (2026): a week of lake-to-lake canoe tripping across the border
  • Philmont Scout Ranch, New Mexico (2025): backpacking in the mountains of Scouting America's largest high-adventure base
  • National Scout Jamboree (2026)
  • Florida Sea Base (2022, and again in 2027): sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving in the Florida Keys

High-adventure trips are for older, experienced Scouts, and they're planned well in advance, with training, shakedown trips and a fundraising plan so cost isn't a barrier.

Growing into high adventure

  • Your first summer

A week at resident camp with the troop, with swimming, canoeing, first-year skills and your first merit badges.

  • Ages 13 and up

Longer treks with the troop, National Youth Leadership Training, and the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's honor society.

  • Older Scouts

Scouting America's national bases (Philmont, Northern Tier, Florida Sea Base and the Summit Bechtel Reserve), usually for Scouts 14 and up.

  • The National Jamboree

Thousands of Scouts from across the country in one place, for many a once-in-a-Scouting-career trip.
