What Scouting costs

Troop 75 charges no troop dues. Beyond the yearly registration with Scouting America, families pay only for the campouts and camps their Scout goes on, and no Scout misses out because of money.

WhatHow it works
Registration$150 a year per Scout as of fall 2026: an $85 Scouting America fee plus a $65 Twin Rivers Council program fee, paid when you apply and each year at renewal. Adult volunteers pay $65 + $65. See the council's fee sheet (PDF).
Troop duesNone. Sportsmart and our other fundraisers cover the troop's costs, like awards, badges and equipment.
Campouts and outingsPaid per event, usually covering food, campsite fees and activities. Costs are posted with each sign-up.
Summer campPaid per Scout each summer, with deposits in winter so families can plan.
Uniform and handbookA uniform shirt and Scouts handbook to start. Many families find good used uniforms through the troop.
Scout Life magazineOptional, $15 a year.
GearThe troop provides tents and patrol cooking gear. Personal gear (sleeping bag, pack, boots) can come over time; ask before you buy.
High adventureOptional trips for older Scouts are planned a year or more ahead, with fundraising to help.

How we keep it affordable

  • Sportsmart, our community gear sale, funds much of the troop's program and equipment every year.
  • Scouts earn their own way. Each fall Scouts can sell popcorn, and 100% of the troop's share of every sale goes into the selling Scout's own Scout account, a personal account the troop keeps for each Scout to put toward campouts, summer camp and high adventure. Scouts who work other fundraisers, like Sportsmart, can earn toward their trips and camps too.
  • Financial help is available. Talk to us privately through the contact form; no Scout is turned away because of cost. Twin Rivers Council also offers fee assistance (PDF) and camperships for summer camp.
  • Military families: Scouting America waives its national fee for children of active-duty, Reserve and Guard service members. (details)

Questions about cost

How much does it cost?

Troop 75 doesn't charge dues. The only yearly cost is registration: $150 a year per Scout as of fall 2026 (Scouting America's $85 fee plus Twin Rivers Council's $65). Campouts and summer camp are paid for each event. Sportsmart, our big fundraiser, keeps troop costs down, and help is available so no Scout misses out because of money. See cost.

Is financial help available?

Yes. Talk to us privately through the contact form; no Scout is turned away because of cost. Twin Rivers Council offers fee assistance and summer camp camperships, Scouting America waives its national fee for military families, and Scouts earn their own way: 100% of the troop's share of the popcorn a Scout sells goes into that Scout's own Scout account, and Scouts who work fundraisers like Sportsmart can earn toward their trips too. See family resources.

What do we need to buy?

A Scout uniform shirt and a Scouts handbook to start. Camping gear can come over time: the troop has tents and patrol cooking gear, and experienced families are happy to advise before you buy anything.
